We have another group meeting on Sunday’s only for a relaxed cruise up to Fern Grotto and back.  Call for further information.  Guests are welcome.

Kawaikini Canoe Club encourages all men & women to come join us at the Wailua River for recreational/competitive outrigger canoe paddling.   For more information call Mo at 346-3953 or email paddler@kawaikini.org.

How Do I Start? Do I have to Join to come paddle with Kawaikini?

Kawaikini hopes everyone will come and “try us out” first.  You need not pay dues until after 2 consecutive weeks when we hope you will decide to stay with our club.  Our fee is $100 per year to join at that time.

We encourage malahini (newcomer to Hawaii) and malihini mākaʻikaʻi (visitor, tourist) to call us and arrange to paddle with us in hopes you might join us. Come join us just for fun!  Donations from one-time guests are welcome but not required.  Call or email to request your seat.

Do I need to sign anything?

Yes, you must sign a waiver to paddle with Kawaikini CC.
A waiver will be provided when you arrive.  Please call to confirm so we are prepared for you with your waiver and a paddle.

Who do I pay my fees to?

You can pay your fees directly to any Board Member or the Coach when you are paddling with us to try us out. (Check). Checks must be written out to Kawaikini Canoe Club.

What do I need to wear/Bring?

Summer: Light shirt and shorts, sunglasses, slippers, and sunscreen.
Winter: Avoid cotton. You need to layer to maximize comfort and mobility. We strongly suggest that you bring a change of clothes to each off-season practice and also that you shower at the outdoor shower after entering the river all year round.

Do I need my own paddle?

Our club will you loan you a paddle if you call Mo at 346-3953 or email paddler@kawaikini.org before you come to paddle with us.  We ask that when you join you purchase your own paddle.

Do I have to race?

Racing is an optional part of our recreational/novice outrigger program. However, if you are interested in moving up to the competitive level, we encourage you to work with others in the club with like interests to build a competitive crew.
